“It almost seems as though more guns have been shot in movies than film footage”

(R. E. McCarthy)

Movie weapons are very diverse, depending on the period of the film – there can be from knives, swords, daggers, bayonets, arrows to flintlocks, semiautomatic and automatic weapons. They are either real or specially converted to rubber and plastic from movie purposes.

Movie weapons (blank firers) definitely need an armorer, as operating with firearms require special permits. You never use real bullets on set, but blanks (their artistic replacements) are also very dangerous so the safety rules must carefully be applied.
